Chapters reveiw

It seems like jugis is getting himself into allot of trouble because he doesn't know how things work in America and because of that he is stuck in his current living place. I think its sad how he doesn't really know whats going on and because of that it seems like people are taking advantage of that or just watching it happen and they aren't doing anything about it. I think jurgis is hosed unless he gets a much better job or adapts to the way things work in America now other wise he is going to be pummeled by the rest of the competition and everything else. I really hope things work out for him but its looking like he wont figure things out.

Chapters 8 9 10

I thought it was so demeaning how he was sent back to be valued as a peice of property and he even recognizes it and how they were valued with animal as equal or greater value to a pig or sheep and other nother animals. You can really tell how black slaves were seen as less then human by how they valued them and how the grandmother was so faithfull and worked so hard for their family and then they pretty much built her a hut and left her to die. You can see how Fredrick has no respect at all for Captain Alud (his new master) because of the way he talks about him and he describes him as not really know how to treat or do with slaves and like he let the athourity he has get to his head.

Response

I thought it was so horrrible and degrading how it was legal to beat and kill a slave without any one even doing anything about it. I dont understand how u could see some one as less then a person they were treated like if they were animals. I think he caught a good brake when his new master didnt beat or whip the slaves for fun he only did it when there was a real reason. Also I think it was really nice that the mistress was teaching how to read but it was horrible how she ended up being more stricked then the man how does some one have such a quick change of heart?

Chapter Review

I thought it was very sad how Fredrick Douglass saw one of his masters (Lloyd) whip a slave woman to death. Fredrick said that Lloyd looked like he enjoyed whipping her to death.
